Long-distance paddling duo Scott Miller and Scott Duffus took advantage of spring flows and ideal weather to paddle the length of the Minnesota River in 63 hours and five minutes.
As usual, finding wild asparagus was easy. Wild asparagus is perennial, and grows in the same places year after year. Morels are more of a mystery to me.

To apply for a 2024 deer gun license, go to the department’s website at gf.nd.gov or the Game and Fish Department’s mobile app. The application deadline is midnight June 5.

The overall harvest was likely a result of more hunters, more trips and more birds in the population, said RJ Gross, upland biologist for Game and Fish in Bismarck.
Mule deer densities remained the same compared to 2023 following last year’s record low fawn production, reduced gun harvest and a mild winter in 2023-24.
An additional snag-and-release extended season will begin Thursday, May 16, and run through May 21.
