Every fall, officials with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources warn waterfowl hunters to avoid mistakenly shooting trumpeter swans. Notices are printed in Minnesota’s waterfowl hunting regulations and warning signs are posted on some lakes frequented by swans.

Wednesday is the deadline to apply for tundra swan hunting licenses in North Dakota.
A total of 2,200 licenses are available. Both North Dakota residents and nonresidents can apply, either through the mail or online at http://gf.nd .gov.
The statewide tundra swan hunting season is Oct. 3 through Jan. 3, 2010.
