Sipping coffee on a Sunday morning in Turtle River State Park

Sipping coffee on a Sunday morning in Turtle River State Park We sat sipping coffee last Sunday morning in the cool, still quiet of Turtle River State Park, 14 miles west of Grand Forks. There was a soft rustling of tree leaves above us and the sun was filtering softly through the trees. You could hear the chirping of birds.

Our new lakeside getaway: Lake Vermilion State Park

Our new lakeside getaway: Lake Vermilion State Park It’s a breathtaking hike to the top of Lander Mattson Peak, a hardscrabble rock outcropping near Soudan, but the view of Lake Vermilion is equally breathtaking. It's part of Minnesota's newest state park.

Chippewa Falls offers plenty of fun for day trippers

On a recent trip to Chippewa Falls, we took an opportunity to visit Irvine Park with our grandkids. Our granddaughter Sophia is 5 years old and our grandson Zach turned 1 in April. Having spent the first two decades of our lives in Chippewa Falls, we tend to take a lot for granted. While our trips back home are getting fewer and farther between, we do manage to take the time to visit a few relatives and friends from time to time. New campsites open at Willow River State Park near Hudson

Over the last few years, Willow River State Park has consistently had one of the highest turn-away rates in the state of Wisconsin, meaning that the park fills up all of its campsites and is forced to turn back potential campers. To remedy this problem Willow River received funding eight years ago to expand the campground by constructing 80 new campsites in the park which would bring the total number of sites to 150.
