CO Dan Malinowski (Fosston) issued a number of Special Beaver Permits to landowners experiencing water problems caused by beaver dams. Angling, boating, ATV, and leech trapping activity was monitored. A river alteration complaint and a call of an injured deer were investigated. MDHA to handle TIP administrative duties

DNR conservation officer Ben Huener (Roseau) investigated an 11-point buck that was poached north of Thief Lake in Roseau County. CO Keith Backer (Blackduck) reported one angler that did not have a fishing license claimed she was only “practice fishing.” The practice fishing was being done with a rod, reel, bobber, jig and hook. Conducted Feb. 25, the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge survey tallied an estimated 52 moose, a number that’s low but still better than the 30- to 50-moose estimate from 2005 to 2007. From 1994 to 2004, the survey consistently produced a population estimate of 70 to 80 moose.June 14, 2010

CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls)answered nuisance bear and beaver complaints and patrolled area State Parks. Area anglers were checked as well as boat and water safety checks. Area angler success was marginal and a complaint of wanton waste of deer meat was investigated.
