CO Ben Huener (Roseau) conducted angling and invasive species checks on Lake of the Woods. Many anglers are still being educated about the potentially dangerous bait being used, and lots of illegal bait is being seized. DNR conservation officers' report: Cold snap slows outdoors activity
CO Robert Gorecki (Baudette)checked two anglers in a large house on Lake of the Woods. The anglers stated they only had a few fish. The officer checked the fish bucket that was sitting in one of the floor cut outs, and noticed a fish tail sticking out from under the house. A subsequent search revealed 33 walleye and sauger stashed under the house. The fish were seized and citations issued for over limits.By Minnesota DNR , January 25, 2011

DNR Enforcement report: Deer season dominates weekend
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls)worked with CO Pilot Don Murray for the firearms deer season opener. One individual fled from CO Woinarowicz in his vehicle and then ran into the woods after removing his blaze orange jacket. The plane was soon overhead and when the violator heard it circling, he realized escape was futile and came out of the woods. CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls)answered nuisance bear and beaver complaints and patrolled area State Parks. Area anglers were checked as well as boat and water safety checks. Area angler success was marginal and a complaint of wanton waste of deer meat was investigated.
