Ice fishing challenges brought on by heavy snow this winter
February 15, 2010
Sometimes just the basics work best on the ice
The “Dog Days” of winter for some begin in December and aren’t officially over until the last drift of snow disappears from the shelterbelt. I know, Dog Days is generally a summer term referring to a lingering hot and humid period in August, but it also seems appropriate for a long stretch of midwinter weather that just doesn’t want to break for the positive.By By Doug Leier, North Dakota Outdoors , February 12, 2010

Still time for good ice action
In most parts of the Midwest, we’re still kind of in the middle of the ice fishing season: Maybe it would be best described as “late-middle of the season.” The end of the ice fishing season can provide some outstanding action. In fact, many anglers greatly anticipate the last few weeks of ice fishing. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and the fish are willing to bite. Now is when you should be planning an end of the year ice-fishing trip.By By Bob Jensen, Fishing the Midwest , February 05, 2010

Time to fine tune the ice lures
It’s that time in the ice-fishing season when we really need to start fine-tuning our presentations if we want to experience ice-fishing success. The easy ones have been caught, and the remaining fish have been pounded pretty good by this point of the season, especially on the community holes or if you’re fishing out of a shelter that hasn’t been moved. This is when lure action become a very important consideration.By By Bob Jensen, Fishing the Midwest , January 22, 2010
