CO Ben Huener (Roseau) worked anglers on Lake of the Woods from the south shore to the Northwest Angle with COs Birchem, Znajda, Gorecki and Sherack. Violations encountered included angling with extra lines, angling with unattended lines, possession of marijuana, angling without a license in possession, and possession of unmeasurable walleyes.
Natural Resources Pilot John Heineman (Bemidji)was grounded most of the week due to poor weather in trying to get to Thief River Falls for the TB deer survey. With luck, the survey was scheduled to start Monday morning.
CO Chris Vinton (Perham) reports two trucks going through the ice on Little Pine Lake. ... There were no indications of poor ice. The vehicle owners are brothers who were fishing in the same shelter. Plans to remove a 2011 Ford and 2012 Jeep are underway.
CO Robert Gorecki (Baudette) said anglers reported excellent fishing during the early part of the week. Some anglers had such good luck, that they forgot to stop, which resulted in several over limit cases being made.
CO Larry Milbridge (Warroad)received a number of complaints regarding trucks being driven down snowmobile Grant-in-Aid trails on Lake of the Woods. L.O.W. users are reminded these trails are for snowmobiles only.
CO Robert Gorecki (Baudette)checked two anglers in a large house on Lake of the Woods. The anglers stated they only had a few fish. The officer checked the fish bucket that was sitting in one of the floor cut outs, and noticed a fish tail sticking out from under the house. A subsequent search revealed 33 walleye and sauger stashed under the house. The fish were seized and citations issued for over limits.
CO Robert Gorecki (Baudette)investigated a complaint of two road kill 10-point bucks that were unlawfully possessed. People are reminded that a permit must be obtained prior to picking up any road kill deer.
