Polaris pioneer: At 92, David Johnson still enjoys riding the trail nearly 60 years after building the first Polaris snowmobile.
ROSEAU, Minn. -- When the Antique Snowmobile Club of America picked Roseau as the site for its 2015 winter convention and "Back in the Day Snowmobile Getaway" last month, the group paid tribute to a snowmobile pioneer. David Johnson, 92, built the first Polaris snowmobile in January 1956 in a Roseau machine shop and is recognized as one of the founders -- along with brothers Allan and Edgar Hetteen -- of Polaris Industries.

Catfish excursion on the Red River
DRAYTON, N.D.--Brad Durick watched the screen of his Humminbird Onix 10 depthfinder and saw just enough change in the bottom of the river to convince him to drop the anchor. It wasn't much--a small midriver hole that dropped into about 10 feet of water--but the Grand Forks catfish guide was fishing a stretch of the Red known for its subtleties.

June 1, 2015: CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked angling activity on the Roseau River and at the Northwest Angle. Several calls were taken regarding nuisance bears and people were advised to bring birdseed, garbage, and dog food inside until the bear left the area. A wolf depredation was investigated near Halma.
