Anglers headed to Island Lake north of Duluth on Saturday are reminded that there will be 165 boats on the lake for the 13th annual ALS fishing tournament.

The Minnesota Power boat landing on the lake will be reserved for the event, which will take place from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event raises money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly called Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Anglers wishing to enter the tournament can still do so by calling (218) 727-8555. Anglers pay $350 per team to enter the contest with virtually all proceeds going to ALS patient efforts and research. Including this year, nearly $1.5 million has been raised during the contests.

The event is held on the first Saturday after Memorial Day. The date usually falls in June but this year falls in May. It is sponsored by Kolar Toyota and other businesses.
