Willmar pair win walleye

Osakis Lions tournament awards $11,520

Kurt Novotny and Dale Ryks of Willmar came away with the top payday after two days of fishing at the 30th Annual Osakis Lions Walleye Tournament this past weekend.

Novotny and Ryks took home $5,120 for their efforts. The duo brought in 15.65 pounds of fish over the two days.

The Osakis team of Jerry Wojtkiewicz and Al Marcyes finished less than a pound off the winning weight. They took a second-place prize of $3,200 after bringing in 14.85 pounds.

Mike Sorenson of Osakis and Kyle Spychalla of Browerville tied with the St. Joseph duo of Bryan Berscheid and Calvin Svihel for third place. Both boats caught 13.15 pounds and took home checks of $1,600.

A total of 189 walleyes were caught in the tournament. The total weight was 348.9 pounds, making for a 1.85-pound average.

Most fish were released back into Lake Osakis after the weigh-in. All dead fish were cleaned and donated to the Galeon for a fish fry for the residents.
