The second annual Cedar Lake Ice Fishing Challenge will be held this Saturday on Cedar Lake.

The second annual Cedar Lake Ice Fishing Challenge will be held this Saturday on Cedar Lake.

There was one fish caught in the first year of the tournament, but tournament organizers have made changes in an effort to see more fish caught this year. The location for the tournament on the lake has been changed. This year the tournament will be held in the bay, on the southwest corner of the lake. This is considered one of the best areas on the lake for catching fish.

The Ice Challenge is sponsored by the New Richmond Coaches Association. It serves as a fund-raiser for New Richmond athletics.

The Cedar Lake Ice Fishing Challenge will make Saturday a busy day on Cedar Lake. The activities begin with pre-registration from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. The tournament will be held from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m.

Due to Department of Natural Resources regulations, the tournament will be limited to 1,000 holes after there were 1,500 holes last year. With the reduced number of holes, entrants have a much better odds of winning a prizes.

Hole prices are $25 per hole. Couples can purchase holes at two for $40. This also enters them in the diamond ring raffle.

Tickets are available in advance at the New Richmond High School office, from varsity head coaches, from Russell’s Sport ‘N Bike in Star Prairie and Lucky Bait in Amery. There will also be a will-call station for people who want to reserve tickets. The tickets can be reserved by calling 715-243-1200.

There will be 50 prizes available including 18 ice augers, 10 ice shacks and 11 underwater cameras. One of the prizes is a guided fishing tour to the Boundary Waters. The grand prize is an Arctic Cat 4x4 ATV. All prizes will be given away, no matter how many fish are caught.

Family events like a broomball tournament will also be going on during the tournament. There will be a warming tent available at the tournament. Food and beverages will be available.

Sponsors include Bernard’s Northtown, Johnson Motors, Cox Motors, Frontier Ag Equipment, Eskimo Augers, Aqua-Vu and Vexilar.
