Steam Threshers Reunion honors women of Rollag

This year’s Western Minnesota Steam Thresher’s Reunion is paying tribute to the women who make it run.

This year’s Western Minnesota Steam Thresher’s Reunion is paying tribute to the women who make it run.

The 2009 event will be held Friday through Sept. 7 in Rollag, Minn.

Pioneer women’s activities will be re-created on Main Street, with demonstrations of spinning, weaving, quilting, butter churning and rosemaling. Posters will detail the jobs today’s women are doing in each particular area.

Harvest machinery will also be featured in the 2009 expo.

Daily events include morning and afternoon parades, horse-power demonstrations, steam and gas threshing, lumber sawing, style shows and square dancing. Gates open at 6 a.m.

Other events happening Labor Day weekend in the region include:

  • Stump Lake Village Threshing Bee, Sept. 6 and 7, near Pekin, N.D. Fourteenth annual grain threshing event also features Theshermen’s Breakfast, demonstrations of pioneer crafts, tours of the village, music, petting zoo, pony rides, food vendors and parade of old engines, tractors and cars.
