Couple charged with fishing after licenses revoked
A Warroad, Minn., couple who had their fishing licenses revoked after conservation officers seized 190 walleye fillets and 28 ground walleye patties from them last summer have been accused of ice fishing last month on Lake of the Woods.
Kevin Bjorneby, 44, and Diane Bjorneby, 49, were charged in Lake of the Woods County with fishing after revocation, a misdemeanor. They are scheduled for arraignment March 17, court records show, at which time they can enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.
The Bjornebys each were charged with possessing walleyes over the limit and aiding or abetting the possession of walleyes over the limit, both gross misdemeanors, in connection with last summer’s incident. That case, also in Lake of the Woods County, remains in the courts.
According to an enforcement report from the Department of Natural Resources, the most recent charges resulted after conservation officers received information the couple had been ice fishing in late January.
Felon charged with possessing firearm
A convicted felon from Baudette faces a new felony charge after a DNR conservation officer found him in possession of a firearm Nov. 7, the opening day of Minnesota’s firearms deer season, in Lake of the Woods County.
Tyler Rivard, 20, was ineligible to possess firearms after being convicted in July 2009 of criminal vehicular operation causing substantial bodily harm, a felony.
The DNR seized Rivard’s rifle, a Remington Model 7400 .30-06. Rivard also was charged with driving after revocation, a misdemeanor.
According to online court records, Rivard made his first appearance Jan. 27, and an omnibus hearing is set for Wednesday in Lake of the Woods County.
