MONTEVIDEO, Minn. – Approximately 1,100 anglers braved subzero wind chills Saturday to participate in the sixth annual Ice Castle Classic fishing tournament on Lac qui Parle Lake, but no one felt better about braving the conditions than Matthew Fragodt of Montevideo.
His 2.03-pound crappie was the tournament’s best, and earned him the grand prize of $10,000.
The tournament is one of western Minnesota’s largest in terms of participants and prizes awarded.
Since its start, the tournament has awarded over $150,000 in proceeds to a variety of charitable organizations.
Prizes are awarded for the top 50 fish. This year’s winning fish of 2.03 pounds was followed by a 1.45-pound crappie caught by Nikkie Street of Big Stone City, South Dakota. Street won a 2019 Ice Castle 8-by-17-foot Lake of the Woods model ice fishing wheelhouse.
More than 75 volunteers helped make the contest possible.
