Tamarac National Wildlife is having its 14th annual photo contest for amateur photographers whose work may look anything but amateur.
The deadline for photo submission is September 9 with the first place, second place, third place, people’s choice and honorable mention winners being announced on October 16 at 2 p.m. for each photo and age category.
The categories include: Wildlife; which include live birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects in their natural habitat; Plant Life, which include trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers, mushrooms, and other flora in natural habitat; Scenic, which are the landscapes and scenic vistas; Nature’s Abstracts, which are nature’s shapes, colors, and patterns revealing the art in nature;
Recreation, which are people enjoying recreational opportunities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, canoeing, wildlife observation and photography.
The Tamarac photo contest also includes two youth division categories for ages 12 and younger and 13 to 17 years of age.
All photo submissions must be taken on the Tamarac Refuge within the past two years, where a maximum of five photos can be entered per person and no more than two entries per photo category.
Some photos may have a chance to be included in refuge brochures, websites, information kiosks and interpretive exhibits, and social media.
Entries in the contest will be displayed during Tamarac’s Annual Fall Festival October 1, and will also be displayed at the Washington Square mall from October 10-16 during National Wildlife Refuge Week.
Photo submissions can be mailed or dropped off at the Refuge visitor center located at 35704 County Hwy 26, Rochert, MN 56578, or it can be dropped off at the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce during business hours.
