WALKER—Jim Sutton and Kelly Curb of Bemidji rallied on the second day to repeat as champions in the eighth annual Leech Lake Walleye Tournament held Saturday and Sunday at Walker.
Sutton and Curb improved by five spots with a second-day catch of 15.27 pounds. They won the first-place check for $14,200 with a two-day total of 28.06 pounds. They also earned another $1,000 for landing the biggest fish of the day at 7.03 pounds.
The Bemidji duo won the 2015 title with a two-day total of 31.57 pounds.
Gordon Fothergill of Grand Rapids and Brad Rasmussen of Buffalo finished second with 24.94 pounds and received a check for $7,500. Mark Christianson of Walker and Harv Lueck of Laporte took third with 24.58 pounds and won $4,500.
The top 20 teams shared the total tournament payout of $43,600.
The biggest walleye and biggest basket for each day, biggest comeback from day one to day two, and Male and Female Division, Adult and Youth Division winners and 75th place also received cash and prizes, with the prizes donated by Reed’s Family Outdoor Outfitters.
There were 974 fish registered over the two days weighing 1,552.24 pounds.
