Well, there goes the ice. With this early-March weather warm-up, law enforcement is offering a warning – stay off the ice… what’s left of it.
In a news release issued Saturday afternoon, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) reported two ice-related incidents resulting in people and equipment going through.
There were no injuries.
On Friday, DCSO received a report of an ATV that went through the ice on Lake Geneva. The driver wasn’t injured.
On Saturday, three people went through the ice on Devils Lake near Brandon.
Everyone made it out of the water without injury, according to DCSO.
With the warm temperatures the ice conditions are deteriorating quickly and going out onto the ice is becoming increasingly dangerous, said Deputy Brian Ziegler. At this time the
sheriff’s office advises people to stay off of the ice.
Daytime highs Friday and Saturday hit the upper 60s in Alexandria.
